EPR-eDevice copyright transfer from the CEA-721 series and CEA-844 to EPR-Forum

Date: 2011-03-05

CEA ( Consumer Electronics Association) has now formally transferred all the copyrights of the ANSI/CEA-721 and 844 standards to EPR-Forum. The standards will now be converted to "Web services" format (XML) and be named the EPR-eDevice standard. The EPR-eDevice standard represents standardized functional models of electronic devices that communicate over various networks (BUS). These Functional models are exposed via "Web services" technology into a Superstructure where functionality and deviations interact with work processes and procedures (scenarios) handled by processable EPR-eFolder-templates in the superstructure. The processing takes place in an eFolder-engine as part of the Superstructure Portal. An EPR-eDevice-directory (UDDI) specifies a list of the electronic devices attached along with their location. Functionality and the status of the various electronic devices are "mirrored" in real time into their respective "Web services" function models (WSDL). The communication protocol between the models is using the Common Application Language known as CAL (SOAP).
It is these functional models of the electronic devices that have been standardized over the last 25 years under the ANSI / CEA standardization work that now is adapted by EPR-Forum to XML and Web services methodology.
